When I turned off the computer last night, there was rain and snow in our forecast. A series of massive winter storms was heading our way and would blast us, one after another, until we were neck deep in water and mud and debris. I might have pictured it a little worse than the actual prediction, but only because I’ve been through massive winter storms and seen what damage they do. I made mental preparations for the siege, so as not to be surprised.

But I was surprised. When I woke up this morning, there was no snow, no rain, and it wasn’t even all that cold. We had clouds today, but also sunshine. It was a reprieve from early onset winter, for how long I don’t know, but the three-day forecast now has no snow (which I wasn’t really expecting anyway) or rain (which I was). Cold, heck yeah. It’s been freezing, literally, since sundown.

I’m taking all this as a sign that everything is going to be all right. I know it’s not much evidence to go an and it could change in a flash, but I make do with whatever cosmic evidence is presented to me.

Because I have a lower tolerance for heat than I once did, I don’t relish the summer extremes any more. But, as always, cold and dark and damp weather has a glacial effect both on my mood and on my ability to function. I get through the winter one day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time. Somehow spring always gets here.
