We had a family chair shopping expedition this morning. Somehow it worked out that we needed three new recliners, all at the same time. Suzanne and John were replacing an old one, and so was I. Mom just needed one, for those nights when lying awake in bed just isnít an appealing way to spend several hours in the dark.
Thatís sometimes what Iíve used mine for, too, and it just wore out. The mechanism that makes it a recliner and not just a chair had turned it into a kind of torture device. It doesnít go back all the way, and it wonít go all the way down, either. This means that Iím often required to perform an athletic leap just to get in or out of the chair. That sort of defeats the purpose of having a recliner at all.
So we all met at the La-Z-Boy store at the crack of 11 am on Sunday morning. John and Suzanne found the one they wanted right away. I thought I knew what I wanted, and I thought Iíd found it. I was looking for a recliner in a dark color with a pattern. Then I sat in the one Mom was getting, and I ended up with a light, solid color. But oh boy, is it ever comfortable. I could easily sleep there, in the daytime as well as the night. In fact, thatís my plan, whenever possible.
